{Wedding of Lionel and Audrey}

Lionel and I spent our time in polytechnic skipping classes, sucking on cancer sticks and listening to White Zombie. Then he met Audrey and became one of the nicest gentleman I’ve known.

Congratulations you two.

Shot at The Racha in Phuket, Thailand.

Jacinta and Roy were fellow ‘Labbers’ from Satchi Labs who love all things Japanese. I soon discovered Roy’s love for action figures and I reckon his collection beats my one Stormtrooper figurine any day.

Their day began with a church solemnization at Barker Road Methodist Church where Jacinta arrived in a gorgeously simple gown and was accompanied down the aisle with her friends and nieces as bridesmaids and flower girls. The couple then pledged their union in front of God, family and friends.

We took some time out after to shoot some portraits at the venue and then proceeded to Four Seasons hotel for their wedding dinner.

I couldn’t help feeling such a warm sense of fellowship amongst J+R and their friends, as I listened to all their speeches that evening. Especially when Roy’s friends, including his father came on stage for an encore ‘old boys’ cheer and toast to the couple.

Some last minute knots being made.

I cherish moments like these – a bride arrives by the steps of the church, taking slow but hurried steps towards her man, who waits patiently by the alter. A brief moment frozen which in reality quickly passes, as barely an hour later, do the bride and groom walk down these same steps as husband and wife.

Mastercard Ad quote “The look on the Groom’s face as he sees his Bride in her gown for the first time. Priceless.” Roy never saw Jacinta in her bridal gown till the day of the wedding. Special surprises like these are so precious.

At this point, Roy must’ve been thinking “Oh why! Why didn’t I write my best-man’s speech!”

Jan and Jeanette are the sort of couple who are simply unpretentious, warm, kind and great to hang out with. When we first met, we talked a little about their wedding and then talked a lot about beer – Guinness, Asahi Dry, Kilkenny’s and Stella Artois (It was only through Jan did I learn about the notorious nickname for Stella Artois). Then, a couple weeks before their wedding, we met up to chat about their day’s schedule over – surprise, surprise – beer.

Jan and Jeanette’s wedding was an eventful day, where pirates arrived with rum but were instead made to walk planks. You could just sense the closeness of Jan and Jeanette’s friends – of whom some had flown in specially for their wedding – and how magnetized they were as a group.

And when the Captain finally got his bride, they celebrated the night away with food, drink and great company by the water way.

Jan and his gang of pirates came well prepared with an ice box of Redbull…

…and beer.

Arrrh! Shiver me timbers, it’s make up.’

Fishing…

…for a winning Bridge hand. I learnt that it wasn’t just beer that brought them together, but the game of bridge as well.

Time to quench that thirst with an ice cold one.

‘Gimme $888.88 in exact change!’

‘Sure. But you’d have to count these coins first!’ Jan had wanted to change 5 cent coins instead, but the bank had run out. True story.

I love it that people don’t pay very much attention to me when I’m shooting. And that’s when you catch them inexplicably looking at the bouquet rather than at the camera.

The couple then headed to Meritus Mandarin Singapore for an evening poolside solemnization and an outdoor dinner.

From way up here, those swimmers look like tiny frogs.

Jan may have given a lot of coins to the bridesmaids, but that smile on the Bride and her father’s face – priceless.

Married!

Lots of {{hugs}} going around that day.

Taking a shot of myself, taking a shot of someone, taking a shot.

And then I was given an ultimatum -Take the shot, or else! That tequila hit the spot.

Sometimes, at the end of a celebration when everyones’ left and your brain and body thinks its time to pack up for the night. Your heart tells you to stay. And when you do, you capture a moment that happens just once – an uncontrieved moment between father and daughter.

PS: When Jan, Jeanette and I met again after their wedding, guess what we met over?

…Beer of course. :D

And that was what I felt catching the dawn at Jiansi+Aileen’s. A glorious sunrise, a poolside wedding at Goodwood Park Hotel and the company of very real sincere family and friends.

The Pageboy took his job very seriously.

Valerie and Geoffrey’s story is a lovely tale of East meets West – of Durians and Apples, of meeting on the Metro in New York and of amazing dances.

Living in New York, it was only up till the very week of the wedding, did I finally meet Valerie and Geoffrey for the first time. Even with their crazy pre-wedding preparation schedule, the couple took time out to meet up and even do a quick demo of the first dance they had choreographed and spent weeks rehearsing.

Their wedding day, held at the Amara Sanctuary Resort started with a lovely intimate solemnization at the venue’s Glass Pavilion. The couple then surprised guests with a performance by a local lion dance troupe right after their processional.

With guests coming in locally and from abroad, Valerie and Geoffrey pulled up all stops during dinner at Shutters with an amazing first dance, touching speeches and a party to remember!

My job that day was also made easier with the brilliant help of Truly Harmony – the wedding planners and the amazing cinematographers SimpleMotion.
