Wedding of Sanjay & Karen

April 01, 2008

sk_day1_web_-9.jpg
I shot Sanjay & Karen’s wedding over 3 days, one at their home for a hindu ceremony and at 2 separate wedding receptions. They had just returned from Bali from their ‘official’ ceremony and had faced everything from thunderstorms to the bride’s sari catching on fire! Karen was even nursing a flu at the reception dinners, what a trooper! Wishing you guys all the best in Boston!

Haven’t been excited by an Ad in a while…

March 31, 2008

I haven’t been excited by Ads in a long, long, while. And for the first time today I opened the New Paper and was blown away by the artwork for Nike Football Singapore.

Check out the website < http://www.nikefootball.com.sg/ >. I gather from there illustration super force Imaginary Friends Studios created the artwork and Kinetic Singapore the creative brains behind it.

I am blown away by the art direction and the fantastic artwork, I haven’t had a woody this hard before in a long while for an ad. Wow, I need to wipe myself dry now. And I reckon it’ll make a pretty awesome tattoo.

Mr. A-Z

March 31, 2008

Wishing I could be half as talented, with a voice like his and mind full of words.

I’m Yours – Jason Mraz

Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
and now I’m trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I’ll be giving it my bestest
Nothing’s going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it’s again my turn to win some or learn some

I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I’m yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you’re free
Look into your heart and you’ll find love love love
Listen to the music of the moment maybe sing with me
i love peaceful melody
It’s your God-forsaken right to be loved love loved love loved

Of falling sick and the temptations of an airport

March 29, 2008

During the course of the week I fell sick, assisted in a shoot at the airport, sprained an ankle and pee-ed on a fly.

I woke on Monday morning with sore throat that no amount of Vitamin C effervescent drinks, Zinc capsules and ‘LEMSIP’ could save me from crashing. I ended that very evening with a full-on viral flu/throat infection. Another round of anti-biotics and what-noughts from the Doc’s knocked me out that night and the following Tuesday with a butt-load of photos I have yet to deliver. This was when I semi-regretted agreeing to assist Ming a week before for a 2 day shoot starting the next day. Call-time was scheduled at 630am Wednesday and here I was on a Tuesday afternoon hallucinating, as I saw flying cars drive around my ceiling lights. “Woah! There goes a pumpkin-flavoured Hummer with chicken wings flapping. That’s quite eco-green no?”

Miraculously, I managed to wake that morning and make my way around that day with the condition I was in. Even the rain-machine the production team had called in couldn’t take me down. Eventually, we got the stills for the first day with Ming happy but drenched from the fake rain, the video crew carried on through the night with more CUs and pickups. Poor them.

BANG! …arggggghhhhh…

March 22, 2008

So you must have heard the news already from a couple of weeks ago, of the Police shooting at Outram MRT station which killed one.

shooting2.jpg

Well, I was there when it happened. Or should I more honestly say, I heard it happen.

I was on my way to Chinatown via the MRT and had alighted at Outram to transfer to another train. I came down the flight of stairs to the platform and stood waiting near the foot for the train. My ears were plugged into the iPod, listening to some random tune. I had a wedding to cover that evening and was cautiously looking at the watch, deciding if I had time for a haircut. “7mins” read the plasma screen. And in Singapore, that is an eternity.

Then from out of nowhere… BANG!

At that instant and the split moments that followed, the station fell silent. Having heard 5.56 rounds before, I first thought “WTF! Some poor kid’s balloon”. A long pause followed before…

“Arrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhh……..” a long loud groan. (more…)

Launched – The Post Modern Abstrakt [ www.dazza.sg ].

Hidee ho,
it’s been months in the making, but I’m happy to launch the first incarnation of my new portfolio website – dazza.sg.

I probably first started thinking about it maybe June ’07. I knew I wanted to relaunch lyrradnahc.com, and it was something at the back of my head as I was on my sabbatical. I’ll admit it, I just got plain lazy and enjoyed not having to think about work. I woke up late most days, enjoyed sitting at cafes, reading, just observing people and watching life go by. It felt great being able to head to the cinemas on a weekday afternoon to catch films again. The hiatus plan also included getting into espresso making, getting my advanced PADI and working/learning as a photographers’ assistant. And I guess somewhere during that time, I put on paper the first sketch of the design. (more…)

  1. I like it. I had to turn the sound off because the dogs kept freaking out whenever I rolled over a menu item. Crazy dogs.

Hello world!

March 11, 2008

Hey there, welcome to the zlog blog – dazza’s blog.

After much procrastination, trial and error, and clearing a backlog of work, I’ve finally decided to launch this baby. I guess it would never have been launched, if I didn’t just say – frag it and launch it as it is and add more bits and pieces as we go along. (And with that my little disclaimer that some bits might end up lookin a lil’ weird as we add / fix stuff, thanks.)

And I reckon everyone with blogs, have always a hard time with their first official post – “What do I say, where do I start?” And as I contemplated this, I decided to do a search on my hard drives for images starting with “001″ – the first registered filename on most digital cameras. And as the search results returned, there were several ‘cringe moments’ as I looked at photos from a few years ago. So here I present to you the findings. I hope you’d come back again and stay reading, thanks and cheers!
